Anime is just one of the gifts we’ve gotten from the land of the rising sun – Japan. Japanese anime can be traced back to as early as 1907. The history and magic of anime is rich in nature and captures audience from around the world. We can’t speak of anime without bringing up the legendary Hayao Miyazaki, who has contributed and created some of the most iconic Japanese anime films; while constantly pushing boundaries and raising the bar to a standard unknown.

Miyazaki classics like Spirited Away, My Neighbor Totoro, Princess Mononoke, Howl’s Moving Castle and Castle in the Sky to name a few are still titles that spark joy and wonder in everyone that’s watched these films. If you haven’t yet, we highly recommend it. More titles you absolutely must watch are Grave of the Fireflies, Akira and Ghost in a Shell.

(Also, can we take a second to appreciate this amazing crossover gif?)

Moving on to new age anime (2000s and after), the number of anime films reduced significantly and studios adopted a more TV series like format, with episodes and season instead. Anyone who has watched anime in the past 20 years knows the biggest hits – Dragon Ball, Naruto, One Piece, Bleach, Death Note, Fullmetal Alchemist, One Punch Man, Pokemon, Sword Art Online, Code Geass, My Hero Academia, Tokyo Ghoul, Attack on Titan. Honestly, this list could go on, but these are the ones that come to mind when someone says “anime”!

So let’s get back to what we have in store for you this month on OSN.

At OSN, we love our animes and want you to enjoy them too – so we’ve prepped 2 of the biggest, baddest, future-classic animes we think you must watch right now. Starting 3 July 2020, everyday Friday and Saturday at 20:00 KSA on OSN Action, you can catch 2 hours of back-to-back anime action. Double bills of two blockbuster shows in Japanese, subtitled in Arabic and English. Mark your calendars to watch Tokyo Ghoul (Season 1 and 2) – ALL 24 episodes, and Saint Seiya: The Lost Canvas (Season 1) – 26 episodes!

Tokyo Ghoul

When a college student named Ken is attacked by his date (who is a Ghoul), he miraculously survives! But now he’s part ghoul himself, and on the run! Ghouls are basically superhuman, over-powered entities that feed on human flesh to survive. Ken then finds a group of friendly ghouls in Tokyo who take him in and teach him to cope with his new life as a half-ghoul. Tokyo Ghoul premiered in 2014, and has been one of the best animes since then. Don’t believe us? Rotten Tomatoes gave the first season of Tokyo Ghoul a 100%. Yep, you read that right.

Watch Season 1 and 2 (all 24 episodes) of Tokyo Ghoul, back-to-back, starting 3 July every Friday and Saturday at 20:00 KSA only on OSN Action.

Saint Seiya: The Lost Canvas

The primary storyline of this anime revolves around an old Holy War that took place deep into the 18th century. This arc takes place 250 years before the original Saint Seiya universe. Athena and Hades have been in battle for years to defend Earth, and they now find themselves reincarnated as siblings, Sasha and Alone.

Watch Season 1 (26 episodes) of Saint Seiya: The Lost Canvas, starting 3 July every Friday and Saturday at 20:00 on OSN Action.
